Colorado Trail - July 5, 2025
Segment 1. This day took me from the start of the Colorado Trail at Waterton Canyon to the end of Segment 1 at the South Platte River trailhead.
Amy, Charley and I were pretty stoked to start the trail. It was not without adventure even before starting. I had to pick up Charley’s bike from the shop and there was some lightning on the drive to Waterton Canyon.
Charley earned the trail names of ‘Rideable’ for declaring nearly every obstacle as rideable and ‘Alabama butt Whoopin’ for his reference to the bike race by the same name.
We also selected walk up songs which I regret to say were not played often enough during the trip.
Amy - Unstoppable - Sia
Charley - Welcome to the Terrordome -Public Enemy
Eric - Better Days -Bruce Springsteen
My wonderful wife and sister-in-law camped with us on the first night and brought pizza.
Mark, our wonderful support crew for the first week of the trail, was waiting for us at the end of the day. Mark was incredibly good at always arriving at our end of day meeting spots and procuring camping. Mark quickly earned the trail name of Re’Mark’able.
16.5 miles and 2500 feet of gain.
